Beninese-born singer Angélique Kidjo (1960) is one of the most influential voices in international music. A five-time Grammy Award winner, she fuses the West African traditions of her youth with American R&B, funk, jazz, and influences from Europe and Latin America.
Since leaving Benin in the 1980s, Kidjo has lived and worked between France and the United States. Fluent in English, French, and Yoruba, she has collaborated with an impressive range of artists, including Kronos Quartet, Alicia Keys, Bono, Philip Glass, Ziggy Marley, and Youssou N’Dour.
