The Centraal Museum was founded in 1838, making it the oldest municipal museum in the Netherlands. Since 1921, following the merger of the municipal collection with several private collections, it has been known as the Centraal Museum. The museum manages the city of Utrecht’s collection, which comprises more than 60,000 objects. This diverse collection spans visual art, applied art, fashion, and urban history, and includes works by artists such as Tanja Smeets, Atelier Van Lieshout, Marlene Dumas, Jessica Stockholder, Erik van Lieshout, Sander Breure, Pipilotti Rist, Mark Manders, and Lily van der Stokker.
