Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen is an international performing arts festival held annually in August in the city of Groningen. With strong local roots, the festival presents a distinctive programme of small- to mid-scale performances across the interdisciplinary performing arts.
Noorderzon is known for its sharp eye for emerging talent and regularly introduces innovative work from countries such as Japan, Iran, Hungary, and Morocco. In addition to presenting performances, the festival (co)produces new work each year, often in collaboration with international partners in cities including Zurich, Hamburg, Geneva and Berlin. Through these co-productions, artist residencies and creation periods, Noorderzon actively contributes to the development and visibility of new voices in the international performing arts.
What sets Noorderzon apart is its strong connection to the city of Groningen, enabling it to be both a cutting-edge arts festival and an accessible city celebration with socially and artistically relevant programming.
