The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a museum of contemporary art located in Cape Town, dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, preserving, and researching art from Africa and its diaspora. It fulfils this mission through exhibitions, educational and discursive programming, and the stewardship of a permanent collection. Zeitz MOCAA is housed in the iconic Silo building at the V&A Waterfront. The museum includes eighty galleries for temporary exhibitions, alongside a presentation of the permanent Zeitz Collection.
In recent years, Zeitz MOCAA has presented influential solo exhibitions by artists such as William Kentridge, Otobong Nkanga, Alfredo Jaar, and Zanele Muholi. The permanent collection comprises over 1600 works, including pieces by Abdoulaye Konaté, El Anatsui, Isaac Julien, and Yinka Shonibare.
Zeitz MOCAA is the world’s first major institution dedicated to providing a physical and institutional space for contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, and plays a key role in bringing this art to the global stage. Following the departure of founding director Mark Coetzee in 2017, Koyo Kouoh (1967-2025) was appointed as executive director and chief curator. Kouoh previously served as the founder and director of Raw Material Company in Dakar.
