Every two years, the renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra selects four young composers to take part in the Composers’ Workshop. As part of this development programme, they have the opportunity to write and develop a new orchestral composition in close collaboration with an established composer and the orchestra’s musicians.

During a closed workshop in early spring, the new compositions are rehearsed by the orchestra. The composers receive feedback on their work and have the opportunity to further refine their compositions. The programme concludes with a public presentation of the completed works by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

In 2027, the programme will be led by American composer and Grawemeyer Award winner Andrew Norman.
