At the invitation of the Oude Kerk, Dutch-Argentinian artist Aimée Zito Lema created a solo exhibition of new works, conceived specifically for Amsterdam’s oldest building. Taking as a starting point the many visible and invisible traces of social resistance and conflict present in the Oude Kerk, Zito Lema explores the layered histories embedded in the site.

In preparation for the exhibition, she delved into the church’s archives. From these historical sources, she raises questions about the role of resistance throughout history and the ways in which societal change is set in motion. Through installations that weave together archival material, sculpture and video, Zito Lema creates a multifaceted space where past and present meet.
