Modest Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov is a powerful portrait of the dark side of power and the human cost of craving it. In this new and contemporary staging by Russian theatre and film director Kirill Serebrennikov, the timeless story of Tsar Boris—who collapses under the weight of guilt and political pressure—is interwoven with present-day experiences of oppression and resistance. The musical performance is led by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the baton of Vasily Petrenko, with renowned bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny in the title role.
