Shostakovich’s Babi Yar Symphony and Schoenberg’s searing account of a Nazi roundup in the Warsaw Ghetto confront us with the enduring horrors of the Second World War. In these powerful works, the orchestra is joined by the male voices of Laurens Symfonisch and the profound bass voice of Alexander Roslavets. Andrey Boreyko conducts, while principal cellist Gregor Horsch appears as soloist with his own Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Weinberg’s Fantasy for Cello and Orchestra.
