Sonsbeek is an art event held in Park Sonsbeek and other locations throughout the city of Arnhem, presenting international developments in contemporary art. Sonsbeek began as a sculpture exhibition held every three years in the eponymous park. As one of the first international art projects after the Venice Biennale (1895), the Whitney Biennial (1932), and before documenta (1955), Sonsbeek has made an international name for itself as a pioneering exhibition of public art. While the early editions of Sonsbeek primarily focused on sculpture, over time the event gradually developed into a broader platform for contemporary visual art.
