After a period of artistic research, Boukje Schweigman returns to the core of her artistic practice with a large-scale site-specific project: Klei. From rivers leaving behind silt to deltas shaped by water, the starting point for Klei is the material that forms the literal and figurative ground beneath our existence. It is a material that can be resistant, fertile and supportive, and that takes on many forms under the influence of nature, history and culture.
In collaboration with visual artist Zoro Feigl, scenographer Julian Maiwald, percussionist Fedor Teunisse, sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch and six performers and musicians, an auditory and physical landscape is developed in which bodies merge with the material and clay comes to life. Klei explores the visible and tangible dimensions of our relationship with the land beneath our feet and questions the current state of our connection to the earth.
