The Rijksmuseum presented the largest ever retrospective of Johannes Vermeer. With loans from leading museums around the world, 27 of the Dutch master’s 37 known paintings were brought together. Never before had so many of Vermeer’s works been shown in one place, including The Geographer, A Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid, Woman Holding a Balance, and Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window. Seven paintings were on view in the Netherlands for the first time.
