The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra presents four world premieres by young composers at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. The new works are the result of the second edition of the Composers’ Workshop, which gave four composers the opportunity to write and develop a new orchestral composition in close collaboration with an established composer and the orchestra’s musicians.
During a closed workshop in early spring, the compositions were rehearsed and discussed under the guidance of American composer and Grawemeyer Award winner Andrew Norman. The world premieres mark the culmination of this development programme.
Duringthis afternoon, the orchestra will also speak with the composers about the creation of their new works. After the interval, works by Duke Ellington will be performed in an arrangement for clarinet and string quartet.
