The Rijksmuseum will present Willem de Kooning at work next autumn, a major exhibition focusing on the working process of Willem de Kooning. One hundred years after leaving Rotterdam to emigrate to the United States, De Kooning symbolically returns to the Netherlands with this exhibition.

Featuring approximately 120 works from international collections, including drawings, paintings, and sculptures, the exhibition offers, for the first time in the Netherlands, an extensive overview of his oeuvre. The presentation traces De Kooning’s artistic development from the Netherlands to New York and provides a unique insight into the practice of an artist in constant pursuit of renewal.
